Our mission is to improve the quality of popular literature from a Jewish perspective, by publishing informative works that are both unconventional and accessible to a general readership. Submission Guidelines
We publish books of scholarship, both traditional and academic, on any issue of contemporary or scholarly relevance, including histories and biographies; poetry anthologies; and fictional novels.
We do not consider technical academic works for publication because they are too specialized for the general public. We are, however, interested in academic works that can be understood and embraced by non-specialized readers.
We currently only accept books that are written in English. However, English works with occasional foreign phrases in the text or footnotes are acceptable.
Authors are encouraged to consult the Chicago Manual of Style for guidelines on proper English writing.
Foreign Languages in English Books
Using foreign languages, such as Hebrew, in a primarily English book is acceptable. However, authors should take into account their intended audience when including foreign languages. How much will readers really understand? Will you be excluding potential readers with excessive usage of a language other than English? Will you be diluting your message by using too little?
How to Submit a Manuscript
If you are interested in having us consider your book for publication, please send a brief description of the book to submissions@derushapublishing.com (please expect a response time of up to two weeks while we process your inquiry). After establishing initial contact and receiving positive feedback, please send a table of contents, two sample chapters, and a dossier with the following information (see below for address):
- Your (the author’s) name, the book’s title, and a short autobiography (including any relevant qualifications for writing this book)
- The book’s intended target audience
- A list of previous books on this topic and an explanation of why this book is different (if applicable)
