This book is an invitation to those who have no background in Jewish mysticism to study Torah and join the conversation – to join in an exploration into the mystical insights of Kabbalah and discover what relevance may be found there. Using the framework of the Ten Sefirot, readers go through ten lessons introducing them to different aspects of Jewish learning: parashat hashavua, midrash, the four levels of PaRDeS, and modern philosophical interpretations. Offering a path toward an end to what the modern Jew often experiences as “spiritual homelessness,” Rabbi Stone demonstrates the relevance of ancient Jewish wisdom and traditional Jewish community, even for alienated individual Jews of the 21st century.

More information:

For thousands of years, humanity has suffered at the hands of cunning tyrants, individual men who use charm, rhetoric, and deception to maintain power over the masses. From the ancient times of the biblical tyrant Nimrod and the Pharaohs, through the terrible reigns of the Caesars, to the despotic regimes of the Hitlers and Stalins of more recent times, human society has been structured to benefit those in power at the expense of the common people. The sole exception to this arrangement – the only society to be formed around the needs and rights of its members and not the selfish whims of flesh-and-blood rulers – is the Jewish society.

Thousands of years ago, the Jewish nation became what Nobel laureate Elias Canetti called a “naked crowd”; a society built on transparency and inclusiveness, impervious to the attempts of would-be tyrants to control the “crowd” through mind-games, linguistic manipulation, and mass hysteria. While the Jewish people have, over the course of history, occasionally lost touch with this foundation of their society, they have never lost the dream of a truly free society for all.

In this book, José Faur articulates the essence of the Jewish alternative to the cunning societies of world history.

In this new guide to the Hebrew Bible and religious humanism, American-Israeli businessman Joseph Haddad explores what it means for us all to be a part of a single family – God’s family.

The Bible’s purpose is to teach us about Man and God, and in so doing, to provide us with a moral and legislative code with which to guide our lives, in both a universal and particularistic way. The family of Man is enjoined to live their lives in a certain manner, while the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are called upon to conduct their lives according to a highly-structured format, serving as teachers and role models for their fellow human beings.

After reading this book, you will never look at the Hebrew Bible the same way again.

The spirit of a man fascinated with words and meanings can bring him to the most unexpected places, to talk with the most interesting people. Traveling across the world and back, Ranjit Chatterjee was swept along the currents of the Buddha‘s silent teachings, language studies that unite the Rabbis and the Postmodernists, and a boundless passion for International Bar-Hopping and Cricket and wordless, wild Jazz.

Interested? So was he.

God and Happiness were found – in letters, in laughter, and in silence. Through years of teaching and learning and discovering the meaning of everything, Ranjit lived a life worthy of a tall-tale. This is his spiritual autobiography. This is his song.

Ready? Roll up your sleeves and put on your dancing shoes, and remember -

More information:

It is our pleasure to bring you a precise edition of Maimonides’ classic guide Jewish law, in a single volume based on the traditional manuscripts – distributed in the United States on behalf of Or Vishua Publications.

RaMBaM’s complete, organized masterpiece allows one to study the basic foundations of the Oral Law in its entirety, and in a short period of time. Familiarity with these patterns of thought, whose gates are knowledge are love, guides the reader to purposefully living a life God-consciousness and understanding of God’s ways within the universe. Life’s intensity and eternity come from following God’s ways in practice, pure of body and holy of spirit.

Features of this edition of the Mishne Torah:

The most accurate version of the text. This version of the text is based on the renowned edition of Rav Yoseph Qafih. Adjustments were made based on comparison with other manuscripts known for their authenticity, repairing the distortions imposed by the Church censors and the tens of thousands (!) of other errors that crept into the standard printed edition over the years.

Original + standard division into laws. The division of the text into individual laws (halakhoth) was also done in accordance with the original division that appears in manuscripts, with each law put in a separate paragraph. The numbering of the laws, however, corresponds to the numbering that appears in the widespread Vilna edition.

Chapter titles and table of contents. Each chapter has a short title that summarizes the topic of the chapter and aids orientation and memory.

Daily RaMBaM Schedule. The work has been divided for daily study of three chapters a day, useful for those who learn on their own or who follow the Chabad-Lubavitch “Daily RaMBaM Schedule.”

Notation of alternative versions. Significant variant texts, based on other precise editions, are indicated in the margins, as well as comments based on the legal responsa of Maimonides and his descendants.

Vowels and punctuation. The book is fully vocalized and punctuated, and all abbreviations are spelled out. Unique words are vocalized in accordance with their appearance in Maimonides’ own manuscript of his commentary on the Mishna.

Cross-references. Full references to biblical verses have been added, as well as annotations of Maimonides’ other works mentioned in the text.

Indices and appendices. This edition includes eleven indices: two indices of all books and sections, one in order of appearance and one alphabetized, an index of illustrations, an index of chapter topics, an index of the titles in order of appearance, two indices of the 613 biblical precepts (miswoth), an index of biblical verses, a topical index of the entire Mishne Torah, an index of characters and personalities, a key to weights and measures, and an additional appendix of Maimonides’ biographical information.

The Mishne Torah is not currently available on recycled paper.

Yehonatan Elazar-DeMota and his wife are doing some great work in the Dominican Republic. As they help the Dominican-Sepharadi Jewish community become sustainable and independent, hakham Yehonatan currently heads the local Jewish school he founded (Beit Midrash Nidhe Israel) while also helping to provide kosher meat and other foods for the community.

He sent out the following thoughts on this week’s Torá portion:

Shalom yehidim.
